# 2025 Was A Strong Year for Global Air Cargo Demand

Air cargo recorded strong performance in 2025 with demand having increased 3.4% year-on-year. The strong performance was supported by ecommerce volumes despite US tariffs that have upended global trade relationships and the end of de minimis exemptions.

Air cargo has adapted quickly to support global businesses and supply chains as they front-loaded cargo ahead of tariffs and policy uncertainties. Air freight has equally responded to increasing demand within Asia and on Asia-Europe lanes.

Data released by the International Air Transport Association(IATA) indicates that full year demand for 2025 increased 3.4% whereas full year capacity increased by 3.7% compared to 2024. December 2025 closed the year strong posting a 4.3% increase in global demand and 4.5% increase in global capacity compared to December 2024.

The industry edging closer to normal supply-demand balance post-COVID. Growth in 2026 is projected at 2.4% which stays within historical trends as demand is shaped by trade and geopolitical risks. Air cargo will continue to keep global supply chains running as carriers deploy capacity and optimize flexibility.
