# Air Cargo Carriers Apply Fuel Surcharges due to the Iran War

Air cargo carriers have adjusted or introduced fuel surcharges due to the ongoing oil market disruptions caused by the Iran war. The oil market is experiencing supply disruptions and cost volatility.

The war in Iran has caused the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, leading to high fuel prices and increased transportation costs. Fuel prices have almost doubled compared to last year’s prices.

The fuel surcharges are necessary due to the rising jet fuel costs, higher airport fees, and enroute fees as the Middle East conflict rages. Additional pressures have been occasioned by fuel volatility in the air freight market.

Carriers are implementing different strategies in response to the high fuel price environment. Network adjustments are affecting belly capacity as carriers scrap routes that would occasion huge losses.

Air cargo carriers have reiterated that surcharges will be reviewed and adjusted regularly as market conditions dictate.
