# Australian Beef Exports in 2025 Obliterate Previous Records

Australian beef exports in 2025 hit a whopping 1.545 million tons, obliterating all previous records. The annual volume posted for 2025 was higher than the previous record of 1.34 million tons reached in 2024 and 1.23 million tons recorded in 2019.

December export volumes hit a record 147,533 tons, bringing to a close a fantastic 2025 for the beef industry. December and January are typically quiet months for beef exports due to the holidays and seasonal closures. The rise in December exports is attributed to quota and tariff resets in the new year.

The surge in beef exports is driven by favorable seasonal conditions leading to sufficient cattle supply, record feedlot capacity, improving carcass weights, and robust processing capacity.

Other key drivers of exports were strong international demand, especially from the US, and tariffson Brazilian beef made Australian beef more competitive. China recorded strong demand for specific cuts and grain-fed beef that outweighed safeguard tariff sand import probes.

Meat and Livestock Australia reports that Australian cattle slaughter reached 7.18 million head for the year to 12th December 2025. With two weeks yet to be included, the total is the highest recorded compared to 7.37 million head slaughtered in2019.
