Australian wine exports recorded a 14% drop in the year ending March 2026. The decrease is attributed to weaker demand in key markets such as China, the UK, and the US. The drop comes despite strong growth performance in Canada and Southeast Asia.

Wine exports dropped 14% year-on-year to A$2.28 billion, and export volumes dipped by 7% to 603 million liters in the year ending March 2026.

Exports to China in the period declined sharply, with value decreasing 29% to A$728 million while volumes decreased 25% to 73 million liters. The value of exports to China peaked in March 2025 and has been declining steadily. Despite an improving presence for Australian wine in China, demand hasn’t returned to pre-tariff levels.

Wine exports to Asia outside of China and Hong Kong have risen 19% to A$393 million, whereas volumes increased 7% to 44 million liters. Notable increases in wine exports were recorded in Indonesia (114%), Malaysia (41%), Thailand (35%), and Singapore (17%).

Other mature markets, such as Japan and South Korea, recorded increases at 10% and 6% respectively. Declines were recorded in the Philippines at 22%, as well as Taiwan (3%), Vietnam (2%), and India (1%).
