# Beef Exports Make Rapid Start in January

Beef exports made a rapid start in January continuing the recording setting year Australian beef had in 2025.

Export volumes in January were at 84,343 tonnes, an all-time high for the month. The figure was 3,294 tonnes or 4% higher than January 2025. January is usually the quietest month of the year as beef processors shut down for the summer holidays.

Robust international trade conditions and processing activity carried into January from the end of 2025 to set up the new record.

Exports to China were on the rise reflecting the urgency caused by the imposition of a 205,000 tonnes quota on Australian beef exports. Once the beef quota has been reached, Australian beef exports will attract a 55%tariff.

Exports to the United States also continued on the same pace as they try to fill a big domestic deficit in beef. South Korea also posted high export volumes at 13,100 tonnes, a 24% rise compared to January 2025. Other smaller markets such as Canada, Philippines, Thailand and Malasia posted a 40% increase compared to last January.
