# Cold Storage Facility Will Improve Citrus Exports for South Australia

A new cold storage facility to handle citrus and table grapes has been approved in Adelaide to support exports to international markets. The facility provides a direct path to market for South Australian producers.

Citrus producers are now pushing for more weekly shipments from Port Adelaide to take full advantage of the cold storage facility.

Lineage, an international cold storage organization, received the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) approval to store fresh produce for international markets. It is the first DAFF-accredited facility that can meet strict cold storage and export protocols.

The facility will save time and cost for SA citrus growers, stopping the trucking of products to Victoria for cold storage and export.

Cold storage treatment is a quarantine process that’s commonly used for fruit flies. By lowering fruit pulp temperatures, the treatment prevents the spread of pests and diseases.

Citrus producers and exporters will now push for at least a weekly service from Adelaide directly to South-East Asia and the European market and indirect services via overseas ports.
