# Drone Strikes on Key Omani Port Lead to Suspended Operations

The Port of Salalah, located in the Arabian Sea, was attacked by Iranian drones on 28th March 2026. Two drones targeted the large container cranes at the port.

Iranian forces claimed responsibility for the attack, claiming they targeted a US support ship.

A large container crane was destroyed, with reports indicating that no vessels were at the berth. The Omani government has condemned the attack, saying that it violates its sovereignty. Operations at the port have been suspended as the damage is assessed.

The Port of Salalah has been providing a vital lifeline to the Gulf region. Salalah is located outside the Persian Gulf, away from the Strait of Hormuz, providing an important overland link to the region.
