Five additional Australian beef export plants were approved to export meat to Indonesia. It presents new opportunities for the Australian red meat industry and further boosts the trade relationship between Australia and Indonesia.
The five plants granted market access are located in Queensland, Tasmania, and Victoria. One plant has gotten approvals for boxed sheep and goat meat. Indonesia is a significant market for Australian halal red meat. The recent approvals for export meat establishments follow wide-ranging engagements between Australian and Indonesian authorities.
Indonesia is Australia’s third-largest agricultural export market for beef and veal, accounting for a total value of $581 million in 2025. However, Australian beef has been significantly affected by Indonesian import permits.
The red meat industry has referred to the approvals as a big win. Australian meat producers and processors will reap improved commercial benefits, whereas Indonesian consumers will get high-quality halal meat from Australia.
