# Japanese Access for Table Grapes Expands Australia’s Exports in Asia

Australia has gained full varietal access for table grapes in Japan. With harvesting approaching, the sector is projecting good fruit quality and a broad mix of varieties for the 2025/26 season.

The Australian Table Grape Association has undertaken trade briefings with up to six Asian countries and is positive that demand will be very strong.

Australia was previously permitted to export three varieties of table grapes to Japan: RedGlobe, Crimson Seedless, and Thompson Seedless. Exporters can now export more than 130 varieties after the removal of trade barriers.

Table grape exports increased by 300 per cent in 2025 from 3,500 tonnes to about 10,000 tonnes.Table grapes are included in the Trade Diversification Network by the federal government that promises additional support for inbound and outbound promotional activities.

Labor availability and tight harvest-to-market logistics are critical to maintaining export quality for table grapes. Local retail prices are unlikely to be impacted by the export-focused season.
