Calls for Temporary Duties as Aluminium Window Imports Surge
The Australian Glass and Window Association (AGWA) has petitioned the government to impose temporary duties as imports of aluminium windows and doors from China surge.
Imports of aluminium windows and doors have increased a further 30% since an inquiry by the Anti-Dumping Commission (ADC) began.
Investigation No. 691 of the ADC is looking into the alleged dumping and subsidization of aluminium windows and doors imports from China. The investigation began following an application lodged by AGWA and VENTORA.
Dumping has placed domestic manufacturers at a competitive disadvantage. The industry is facing imminent collapse following the closure of the last remaining architectural glass manufacturer.
Clinton Skeoch, CEO of AGWA, says the call for temporary duties is all about fairness. The association is fighting for a level playing field that doesn’t undermine Australia’s vibrant and highly competitive window manufacturing industry. The government must protect sovereign manufacturing capacity and skilled jobs.
