Customer Advisory: Fuel Costs Trigger Industry-Wide Levy Hikes
Fuel costs are surging across Australia as the conflict in Iran drives global oil prices sharply higher. In just one week, crude has jumped nearly forty percent, pushing local diesel prices past two dollars a litre.
Transport companies nationwide are responding with immediate fuel-levy increases and a switch to weekly pricing reviews. New levies now range from roughly 15% to more than 27%, with some operators adding a temporary ten-percent surcharge to keep services running.
Several carriers warn that if the Strait of Hormuz remains restricted, fuel prices could climb even further, potentially triggering additional charges.
Operators say the changes are temporary and will be rolled back once fuel markets stabilise.
Further updates are expected in the coming days as weekly reviews continue.
