Ukraine used drones to sink a Russian-owned container ship in the Black Sea. According to reports in Russia, at least two drones struck the cargo vessel as it sailed on the Black Sea towards Novorossiysk.

The ship was transporting civilian goods such as frozen foods and construction materials. FESCO, Rosatom’s shipping subsidiary, reiterates that the vessel wasn’t carrying nuclear material. Rosatom has reported that the attack is an act of piracy and robbery.

The attack forced the 17-member crew to quickly abandon the vessel. The crew abandoned the ship in an organized and coordinated manner as the vessel sank with no injuries reported.

Ukraine has accused Russia of using the Black Sea to transport sanctioned goods such as oil. On the opposite end, Russia has launched multiple strikes on Ukrainian port infrastructure and ships right from the beginning of the war.
